This department of the Westpac International Business College is structured to accommodate students with English as a Second Language. Students are
enrolled in the program depending on the level of understanding spoken or written English.

ESL 01 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE |

Level A: |
This course is designed to give new students their first exposure to English. Major emphasis is on practicing oral skills through visuals and physical responses. |

Level B: |
This course is designed to give non-active English speakers basic English language practice with major emphasis on practicing, listening, and speaking. |

ESL 02 ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE |

Level A: |
These course is designed to give English as a second language speakers further work on their oral skills, with increase emphasis
on reading and writing English. |

Level B: |
This course is a continuation of previous courses with equal emphasis placed on the four skills; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. |

ESL 03 READING AND WRITING |

This course integrates functional reading and writing skills using authentic material for adult learners.
Reading exercises are task-based and develop skills in global and intensive reading. |

ESL 04 LISTENING |

Listening is designed to help high-intermediate students improve skills needed for effective listening. Pronunciation,
note-taking, and everyday language are practiced extensively. |

ESL 05 ENGLISH CONVERSATION |

English conversation is designed for advanced students to improve their speaking skills for daily conversations with native
English speakers. Students are given the opportunity to practice pronunciation, idioms, and everyday language expressions. |
